
Michael Batie Ph.D. is CEO of the STEM Education and Research Collaborative (STEMERC), a forum for systematic study and joint action to resolve pressing problems in the areas of science and math education in communities of color.
His current efforts are centered on STEM54 a math/science resource center located in South Los Angeles (www.stem54.com), and Mobile Math and Science Labs (www.mmsl-la.com) a support program that delivers the necessary materials, supplies, equipment and support personnel for the effective teaching of Early Childhood through 12th grade math and science. There is a particular focus on Parent Empowerment in Mathematics Workshops designed to train parents in how to assist their children in Common Core mathematics. He recently published the Black Zero Index (www.thebzi.com), a comprehensive presentation that brings awareness to all concerned parties regarding the crisis in the Los Angeles Unified School District with respect to Black Students’ mathematics.
Dr Batie holds a B.S. in Physics and an M.S. in Education Foundations from Cal State LA. In 2008 the Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis on research and statistics was conferred by the University of California at Riverside.
