
Gregory Reed is a Registered Professional Civil Engineer and a lifetime member of the Los Angeles Council of Black Professional Engineers. Mr. Reed currently serves as Member At Large for the LA Council. Having been exposed at an early age to the Engineering Orientation Classroom Project (EOCP), Mr. Reed credits the LA Council as his inspiration for becoming an engineer and earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cal State University Northridge.
Having served the citizens of Los Angeles for over 30 years, Mr. Reed currently serves as Assistant Director of the Water Engineering and Technical Services Division for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). In this role, he oversees the Planning Section and is responsible for long-range planning and development of water system infrastructure renewal and expansion projects valued at over $400 M annually in capital investments. Mr. Reed has experience managing capital improvement programs, project delivery methods, and construction management services. Mr. Reed's experience also includes developing the City's water rights and local groundwater supplies, transportation engineering, and public works infrastructure improvements.
In recent years, Mr. Reed led a component of LADWP's workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion program, recruiting African American talent from LA's local college campuses and from several of our nation's most prominent Historically Black Colleges and Universities. In collaboration with several colleagues, Mr. Reed established the first employee-based chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers at LADWP and served as its first Chapter President. LADWP-NSBE Professional Chapter provides a home where African American engineers are welcomed within LADWP, and the Chapter implements various community and STEM outreach programs designed to build a pipeline of future African American engineers.
